Chancel Choir
Under the direction of Marcia Powell, the 35-member Chancel Choir sings at each 10:55 a.m. service in addition to several special concerts throughout the year.
Choral and instrumental music are of central importance to worship at Hayesville First. Anthems range from contemporary, jazz, Latin beat, spirituals and Southern gospel to classical themes relating to the Lectionary scriptures of the day. To serve the diverse spiritual and musical interests of the congregation, the two Sunday services offer distinctive musical offerings. The format of each service, the style of music, and the congregational participation varies according to the focus of the day.
The Chancel Choir is comprised of sopranos, altos, tenors and basses, and most members read music. The group performs three major productions per year: Christmas, Easter and an end of Summer concert. In the fall of each year, the group has an overnight retreat to learn music for the upcoming year. They also contribute to a fund called the "Sunshine Fund" to assist ailing choir members or to sponsor several picnics, dinners and "get-togethers" during the year.
The group rehearses on Wednesday in the choir room at 6 p.m. and on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
New members are always welcome. For more information, contact Marcia Powell at [email protected] or (828) 837-3423..
