PASTOR MEMO November 19, 2008
Good Morning Church: As we bear down on Thanksgiving, I am preparing my sermon for this Sunday night’s Thanksgiving service and I am wondering - for what do you give thanks? We seem to think about those things for which we are grateful with a little more intensity and purpose this time of year. So, if you do not mind sharing your thanksgivings, please email them to me today or tomorrow. I might use them in my sermon Sunday night. Do not fear I will not use any names. Thanks. Some other stuff: We had a great night Sunday night as the Staff Youth Group thanked those of you who enabled them to participate in Carolina Cross Connection and Recreation Experiences. I know it was “interesting” for you to enter into their world of worship and fellowship for a little while. Thanks to those of you who came and thanks also to those of you who supported the youth and were not able to make it Sunday We appreciate you. Coming this Sunday: Undie Sunday: Please remember to bring underwear and socks for the Girlfriends in God Undie Sunday. These items will be given to Clay County Department of Social services to distribute to children in the community who need them. Hanging for the Greens: Join us at 2pm on Sunday as we decorate the church for Advent/Christmas. There will be plenty to do for everyone who comes. Thanksgiving Service: The annual parish-wide Thanksgiving Service will be Sunday night 7pm at Ledford’s Chapel UMC. Ledford’s Chapel is located on the lake across form the Deerfield Inn on US64 East. Come join us in a spirit of worship and thanksgiving and stay for some fellowship following the service. We will receive an offering to benefit the Clay County Food Pantry – I encourage you to “Take the thanks-GIVING challenge by calculating how much you will spend on your Thanksgiving Dinner and giving an equal or greater amount to help feed the hungry of Clay County. Last week an exciting thing happened at HFUMC. Netta McFaddin of Far West Families First (FWFF) was here for Faith Team training and we now have a Faith Team of HFUMC members that will be assigned a family in the Kinship Program of FWFF. You will recall that the Kinship program is a program that reaches out to families who are grandparents raising grandchildren. The faith team covenants to help this family for a year with finding resources, perhaps helping with some housing needs, providing a listening ear, and being a source of encouragement. Please lift up this Faith Team and their family in your prayers. We are looking for some servants who will be able to help Brasstown Manor worship team on December 14th at 2pm. We are doing a service of Lessons and Carols and we will need a few singers and Scripture readers. If you can be in ministry with us on that day let me know. Community In Schools is looking for some folks who are available to be present in the schools as readers, mentors and other stuff assisting teachers. If you can be a servant in the schools please contact CIS Executive Director, Theresa Waldroup at 389-1625. If you did not have the opportunity to fill out and return your Estimate of Giving cards it is not to late to do so. Please feel free to turn them in this Sunday or drop them off at the church office. I will see you Sunday. Be the face of Christ to someone. Kirk
